Who is Josh?
Josh is a husband, father, historian, educator, coach, and Greene County, TN Commissioner
Josh has been married to Candice for almost 20 years. They have three children: Will, Reagan, and Madi. He is a graduate of Milligan University, BA History (05) and American Military University, MA History (19). He is a current PhD student in History at Liberty University. He has taught for 18 years. He has also coached since he was 15 having coached baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball and soccer. He has served on the Greene County Commission since 2016.
Josh is passionate about fostering a love for history and civic engagement in his community, emphasizing the importance of understanding the past to build a better future. As a Greene County Commissioner, Josh has focused on citizen engagement to make sure that the people of Greene County had their voices heard and protecting the rights of his constituents.
Josh has taught for 18 years in the state of Tennessee with 17 of those in Greene County. He has taught middle school English Language Arts, Title I Computer Science, Geography, Science, History, and high school Economics. He is also the local leader in Greene County for the Professional Educators of Tennessee and a member of PET's Board of Directors.
As a coach, Josh won multiple Greene County Championships in baseball and basketball. He was chosen as AA Coach of the Year in Basketball as his team won the State Championship in Springfield, TN. His teams also were TSSAA State Sectional Runners-Up twice.
As a historian, he would be classified as an expert in Political and Intellectual History with a focus on Colonial, Revolutionary, and the Early American Republic. He wrote his master's thesis on the Lost State of Franklin. His proposed PhD dissertation looks to explore Jeffersonian republican thought in East Tennessee from the Revolutionary period through the Civil War tying the Tennessee narrative to the larger national narrative.
