Back to the Blog…

In 2006, I was a 23-year-old fresh out of college with a degree in History. I had just gotten married, lost my first political election, and was working a job I didn’t love for $8 an hour. Teaching history was my goal, but at the time, the opportunity wasn’t there. Still, my interest in politics was strong, and when my state representative announced a bid for Congress, leaving his seat open, I decided to take an unsuccessful leap… if you measure success by winning or losing elections.

Over the years, I stayed engaged in politics, primarily through writing. During the height of political blogging, I joined a network of conservative bloggers, gaining some recognition when a Nashville newspaper blog highlighted a post of mine. That exposure brought traffic and attention, but the grind of political discourse wore me down.

As my focus shifted to raising kids, teaching, and coaching, my political writing took a backseat. I channeled my energy into local politics, eventually running for County Mayor and, later, securing a seat on the Greene County Commission. These roles allowed me to see both the promise and the challenges of local governance.

Throughout my journey, one theme has always resonated: liberty. It’s a principle that informs my political philosophy and my academic work as a PhD candidate specializing in political and intellectual history. As I approach the end of my time on the Greene County Commission and embark on the next phase of my academic and political career, I’m eager to blend these passions into a single platform.

Liberty Ramblings is where history and politics meet. Here, I’ll share my thoughts on contemporary political issues, publish research from my academic pursuits, and explore the historical roots of liberty—always with an eye toward education and meaningful impact. It’s a space for thoughtful reflection, professional growth, and engaging dialogue about the ideas that shape our world.

Thank you for joining me on this journey.

Without further ado, welcome to Liberty Ramblings with Josh Arrowood.
